Script

Scene 1: The question.

Narrator:

Halloween has passed away
Comes another holiday
Christmas will conclude the year
Treat me to a cup of cheer
(or else!)

Gifts are bought and wrapped with care
Does Jesus shop the mall, or where?
Time to buy some new decor
So tell me Jesus’ favorite store
(right now)

Scene 2: The voices of the world

Excited Voice 1: (peppy, but more forceful than quick)
Buy now,
bulk rate,
best deal,
big date
Bows red
boughs green
bulbs white

Big scene

Calm Voice 1: (a still, small voice)
Wicked, wicked Babylon
Will be missed when she is gone
Weeping, wailing loss of humor
She was such a good consumer
( Revelation 18:9-18)

Excited Voice 2: (as with Excited Voice #1)
Giving dear
Loving dear
Caring dear
Pricing dear
Honey dear
Costly dear
Sharing dear

Calm Voice 2: (another still, small voice)
Larger offerings were given
Trumpeted --- they were not small
But Christ the Lord declared for us
The widow’s mite was best of all
(Mark 12: 41-44)

Excited Voice 3:
I want IT
I need IT
I love IT
Gim-me IT
Go buy IT
Go wrap IT
Then give IT
I got IT

Calm Voice 3:
Words of God, words ring true
Give and “it” be given you
But do not hand me any blame
If cash and “it” are not the same
(Luke 6:37-38)

Scene 3: An Answer from God

Narrator:
I prayed

And the prophet spoke

Prophet of God:
Give to God a lover’s gift
Between you and God alone
For lovers a gift is just one way

That enduring love is rightly shown

Lovers may give at Christmas time
Or next June the twenty-third
And drop hints of what they like

As God did in Sacred Word.

Lovers don’t praise or ban the store
The lover matters, not the stuff
If you show your love of God
That is certainly enough
For lovers

Scene 4: At last, the Answer

Narrator:
What Jesus gave is on no shelf
He gave us of his own true self
What Jesus wants, dearsister, brother

Hear a foe, make amends you need
Upholdthe worthy, plant a seed
Read the Scripture a time or two

Jesus declared His
kids of worth
YOU are where Jesus
shops on earth
Amen.
