Script

(Pete is in a foetal position, music starts (The Rock by Punx - although any house music will do) quietly and Jesus stands on stage looking down on him. Pete slowly emerges; he crawls and then finally stands up holding a small white hockey ball (representing his soul). He looks around facing the audience and slowly walks down the aisle.)

Jesus: Pete!

(Pete turns around and looks at Jesus)

Jesus: Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door I will come in. Pete, I offer you forgiveness and eternal life, will you let me in?

Pete: Yeah I would (looking at the ball), but you see, Christianity is just not cool. I'd like to have all your stuff, but I'm not ready to chuck away all my street cred.

(Pete walks further down the aisle, and music volume slightly increases)

Jesus: Pete!

(Pete turns around and looks at Jesus)

Jesus: Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door I will come in. Pete, I offer you forgiveness and eternal life, will you let me in?

Pete: Look, I'm a teenager now, I discover new things everyday, if following you means I have to stop doing all the things that you see as wrong then forget it.

Jesus: Can your friends give you eternal life?

Pete: (looking at the ball) No, but I still have loads of time left before I die, wait until I'm older. (Pete walks further down the aisle, and music volume slightly increases)

Jesus: (raising his voice to be heard over the music) Pete!

(Pete turns around and looks at Jesus)

Jesus: (still loud) Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door I will come in. Pete, I offer you forgiveness and eternal life, will you let me in?

Pete: (Angrily) Do you know what it's like to have two kids running around all the time? No, I suppose the Son of God never had time to have kids. And that's exactly what I don't have, time. Time for you, or time for anyone else.

(Pete walks further down the aisle, and music volume slightly increases)

Jesus: (raising his voice to be heard over the music) Pete!

(Pete turns around and looks at Jesus)

Jesus: (shouting) Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door I will come in. Pete, I offer you forgiveness and eternal life, will you let me in?

Pete: (shouting but happily) Ha! With the kids left home, mortgage nearly paid off, and a promotion, me and the wife are having a new lease of life! We're off to Spain next week, going with the local 50s+ club! No longer bound to this earth with debt!

Jesus: (still shouting) What about when you die?

Pete: (shouting) I can't hear you, you're going to have to speak up! Oh forget it, can't have been that important.

(Pete walks to the end of the aisle, and music volume slightly increases)

Jesus: (urgently shouting) Pete!

(Pete turns around and looks at Jesus)

Jesus: Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door I will come in. Pete, I offer you forgiveness and eternal life, will you let me in?

Pete: (at top of his voice) STOP!!!

(Music stops)

Pete: (nearly in a whisper) What did you say?

Jesus: (in a normal tone) Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door I will come in. Pete, I love you, I offer you forgiveness and eternal life, will you let me in?

Pete: I've lived my whole life without you, I'm not sure if I need you. It's not like I'm going to drop down dead. I mean I've lived a good life, surely I'm going to heaven, I mean I've never done anything really bad.

(Pete starts to cough)

Jesus: God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. People who believe in God's Son are not judged guilty. Those who do not believe have already been judged guilty, because they have not believed in God's one and only Son. Pete, will you let me in?

(Pete coughs and collapses holding his heart)

Pete: Lord....I....argh....no!

(Pete collapses holding the ball outstretched before him)

(Jesus walks to the back and takes the ball out of his hand)

Jesus: (sadly) Another soul lost to complacency.

(Jesus walks to the front and addresses the audience)

Jesus: Our sketch is over, but this story will repeat itself hundreds of times in real life. Jesus offers forgiveness to anyone at anytime, but you have to make the decision, he can't wait forever. Don't be like Pete, take his forgiveness now, not later, before it's too late. (Jesus leaves the stage)
