Noisy Night

By Matthew Thiele

(This poem is a parody of 'Silent Night' but it is definitely not meant to be sung.
The setting we used it in was in a darkened church with a lone voice reading in a forlorn way.
Emphasise the harsh repeat of the last line.)

Noisy night, busy night,
no room to sit, nowhere to lie,
Mary screams, her birth pains increase,
A tough start in life for the world's Prince of Peace,
Christ the Saviour is born,
Christ the Saviour is born.

Noisy night, busy night,
Donkeys bray, animals fight.
The city is full of noise and of smoke,
They try to sleep but they just stay awake,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Noisy night, dirty night,
This old shed smells, it just isn't right.
Son of God is lying on straw,
Maybe he's cold - he cries more and more,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth.

Noisy night, busy night,
God comes to earth, to share in our plight.
Shares in our humanness, lives in our pain,
A refugee born, in darkness and shame,
Jesus, Shares in our pain,
Jesus, Shares in our pain.
