Summary: A monologue by a young lad with a few fish.
Style: Dramatic Duration: 5min
Actors: the reader
Scripture: based on Mark 8:7
I woke up very early that morning. I was excited. My mum had said that I could go with my mates to see this new prophet.
It was during the school holidays and Dad, who ran a small working farm, and mum, were glad for me to be out in the sunshine and not under their feet. Mum made sure that I wouldn’t be hungry by supplying me with some bread and a few small fish. She always took care of my needs. What I didn’t of course realise at the time was that she would supply the needs of a great many people more than me!
So I rushed off to meet my friends, just looking for a fun day with my mates.
We climbed up this tall hill and found it crowded with lots of people all eager to hear this new teacher.
Jesus taught us many things that day and even though I was just a kid I realised how powerful His teachings were.
We all sat listening to His every word, almost stunned by His wisdom. Jesus taught about God and the kingdom of heaven in such a simple way that we could all understand.
We stood for hours not noticing the time until I heard one of Jesus' followers ask Jesus how they could feed all these people, because it was getting very late. “You feed them!” said Jesus with a chuckle and a huge grin. The disciples were very confused, but were a little encouraged when one of them spotted my small lunch.
He grabbed me and suddenly I found myself standing next to Jesus.
“Don’t be afraid,” He said, “just sit here with me.” I was speechless and just dropped down at His feet.
Then Jesus took the bread and fishes, gave thanks to Jehovah, and gave each disciple a share of my lunch.
It was amazing, the food just miraculously appeared in Jesus' hands as He gave it away. He gave me some, too.
I couldn’t believe my eyes. Everyone was fed and they picked up 12 baskets of the left-overs!
What a day. I followed Jesus whenever I got the chance to hear more of His teachings.
Later He was crucified, an innocent man, but I rejoiced with all the believers when He rose from the dead on the third day.
Although I was only a kid, my life changed forever that day and when I ponder on all the events, I can hardly believe that Jesus took my lunch and fed over five thousand people.
